Salem's Cole falls in VSGA Senior Women's match play semifinal

HOT SPRING - Salem's Sara Cole was eliminated in the first flight of the VSGA Senior Women's Match Play tournament when she lost in the semifinals to Anne Gordon Greever of Richmond, 1 up on Thursday at the The Homestead's Old Course.

Rocky Mount's Betty Compton did reach the final of the fifth flight when she beat Dottie Webb of Roanoke, 3 and 2. Compton will face Sue Bentley of Coeburn.

In the second flight, Suki Button of Haymarket downed Wanda Flora of Roanoke, 1 up.

The third flight semifinals had two Salem golfers - Judy Knight and Kailynn Sprinkle, but neither reached the final.

Helen Ferneyhough of Monroe topped Knight, 2 up, while Susan Mehall of Williamsburg beat Sprinkle, 3 and 1.
The championship flight final will be between Shelley Savage of Alexandria and Joanne Kitusky of Glen Allen.
