MONETA — Timesland-area players had a field day in this year’s Andrew Haley Memorial/Smith Mountain Lake Lions Junior championship that concluded Tuesday at The Waterfront Country Club.

Hardy’s Kolton Cooper captured the featured boys 15-18 title, while Roanoke’s Derrick Chocklett and Huddleston’s Isaac Simmons picked off titles in the boys 14-15 and 11-13 age groups, respectively.

Cooper, 17, a recent Franklin County High graduate who hopes to play on Roanoke College’s golf team this fall, settled for a 5-over-par 76 in the final round to stave off Roanoke’s Nick Brediger (73) and Forest’s Zeke Shen (72) by a shot. Cooper finished with a 36-hole total of 5-over 147.

Martinsville’s Wesley Smith (76) took fourth at 149. Salem’s Austin Fox, spurred by the division’s lowest score of 71, rallied to tie for fifth at 150 with South Boston’s Peter Gasperini, who shared the first-round lead with Cooper. Roanoke’s Drew Lagan (75) tied for seventh at 152. Goodview’s John Lyle (75) and Stuart’s Tyler Shough (76) tied for 10th at 153.

Chocklett carded a final-round 74 to finish at 147 to win the 14-15 class, two shots ahead of Lynchburg’s Connor Burgess.

Simmons posted on a second consecutive 70 on a shorter course to roll to a six-shot victory over Lynchburg’s Jimmie Massie in the 11-13 division.

North Carolinian Shannon Paylor posted a 78 to cruise to a 16-stroke triumph in the girls 15-18 division. Troutville’s Alisa Caraballo shot 86 to take the girls 11-14 class over Roanoke’s Leisa Jayde Dudley.
