Floyd County junior Amanda Hollandsworth has confirmed that she has verbally committed to Old Dominion.
Hollandsworth, last year's VSGA State Junior Girls champion, will graduate from high school next year.
"I visited ODU and fell in love with it,'' Hollandsworth said Sunday following her final round in the Scott Robertson Memorial at Roanoke Country Club.
"I like being near the beach,'' said Hollandsworth, breaking into a huge grin. "I can play all year. I think it will really help my game."
Hollandsworth picked ODU over Richmond, Radford and East Carolina.
Hollandsworth has prodigious length off the tee. Just ask the boys who competed in the Robertson's long-drive contest. Her blast of 306 yards beat the boys' winner, Jeff Palmerino of Glenmont, N.Y., by a yard.
"Yeah, the boys weren't too happy about it,'' a giggling Hollandswoth said.
