Hokies not playing to their abilities

The coaches did not fumble the ball deep in North Carolina territory on the first drive of Thursday's game between Virginia Tech and UNC.

The coaches did not hold on the touchdown by Ryan Williams. And the coaches did not cause the questionable pass interference play in the fourth quarter when we had them stopped.

That said, I do question the all important third-and-7 call with just a little over two minutes to play.

Coach Bryan Stinespring, I honestly feel that you may be the only offensive coordinator in this country who would have called a run off right tackle. Even if Williams had not fumbled, he was stopped short of the first down and we would have had to punt, giving North Carolina the ball probably around their 35 with two minutes to play and two timeouts.

Even if Williams had made the first down and not fumbled, I would have said it was a "dumb call."

The only person you faked out was me and probably every fan on TV and at the stadium. You sure did not fake out the North Carolina defense.

Something is wrong at Tech. Your head coach says this is the best group of players he has ever had. Maybe they are.

So who is the blame for this loss and the loss at Georgia Tech? Sure a 9-3 (maybe) record is great, and most teams would love to have it.

But not for a team who came into the season ranked No. 7 in the country and had talked of winning a national championship.

Unless Frank does some serious changing next year we are not going to be any better. I hope I am wrong.

Keep settling for a mediocre offense

Third-and-7, two minutes left, and Virginia Tech's offensive coordinator calls a run?

Only Bryan Stinespring could call a bonehead play like that. How many national television losses will it take?

How many times must the Tech offense be ranked in the 100s? How many times must they lose to unranked teams?

What will it take for Frank Beamer to fire his little buddy Stinespring?

I have no clue, but it's long overdue. As long as Tech fans keep showing up, they'll keep this guy around.

Stop going to games and let Tech know that you won't settle for a high school offense.

Kudos to Frank Beamer

Dear sports editor:

Let me first say that I am by no means a Virginia Tech fan.

I bleed orange and blue. However, I must compliment Coach Beamer for standing up for his players on the matter of illegal blocking by Georgia Tech.

I watched the Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech game, the Army game, and attended the UVa-GT game, and both Army and Georgia Tech are famous for chop blocking.

Although Coach Beamer apologized, he slyly got his point across, so maybe it will open some eyes in the ACC office. ACC officiating is the worst of the worst; they cannot even get it right on a replay.

As I watch college football, I sometimes feel that the officials dictate who wins and who loses according to their ranking. ... It is just something to think about.

Money controls all. Again, I congratulate Coach Beamer on taking a stand on his principles.
