Rose picks JMU
Former Amherst County High School quarterback Peter Rose, whose scholarship offer from Virginia Tech was withdrawn after a drug arrest in May 2008, will play football for James Madison this year, he told the Harrisonburg Daily News-Record on Tuesday.
Rose said he chose JMU over spending a year at Fork Union Military Academy.
JMU athletic director Jeff Bourne told the Harrisonburg newspaper that Rose’s admission to the university is “still pending."
Rose’s older brother, Jonathan, plays for JMU.
Rose was convicted of two felony counts of selling drugs within 1,000 feet of a school and two misdemeanor charges of selling marijuana. In April, a judge set aside the two felony convictions, clearing the way for JMU coach Mickey Matthews to recruit Rose.
Rose told the Lynchburg News & Advance that he also had recent offers from Liberty and Morgan State.
