Fantasyfootball forecaster
Here's a confession. I have no idea how to introduce this week's column.
Usually I will stare at my computer until something hits me, but it's been two hours and I've got nothing.
I am worried, though, that I was willing to sit on my couch for that long without accomplishing anything and it didn't seem to phase me.
I did get some laundry done, though. So it wasn't a total waste of two hours.
I also contemplated the degree of lying that television advertisers employ about their shows.
It seems like every show was "last year's highest rated series" or "the best show on television."
And you know what?
I haven't seen most of these shows or ever heard another person mention a word about them.
Yes, people, another exciting day in my life. Staring, doing laundry and wondering about unimportant things.
Now it's fantasy time, Week 6 style.
QUARTERBACKS
Kyle Orton, Bears
Very quietly Orton is having a pretty good season. I'd expect that to continue against the Falcons and he could put up some good numbers.
JaMarcus Russell
This is based on two things. I have yet to pick him and he's playing against New Orleans which, as I've said before, doesn't have the greatest defense. He's risky, but worth a shot if you're normal starter is on a bye.
RUNNING BACKS
Clinton Portis, Redskins
He's dominated the Cowboys and Eagles on the road. The Rams are nowhere near as good as either of those teams, but the Redskins will still rely heavily on Portis.
Steve Slaton, Texans
Our resident Mountaineers fan, Mark Shaver, has been telling me I need to pick him so here it is. He's doing very well and this week is a decent matchup against the Dolphins.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Bernard Berrian, Vikings
There are plays to be made against the Detroit secondary and Berrian is a play-maker. Pretty good fit for a fantasy play if you ask me.
Plaxico Burress
No doubt about it, the Giants offense is rolling and I don't expect much to change against the Browns this week. Burress missed last week but that won't affect him at all.
TIGHT ENDS
Anthony Fasano, Dolphins
The Texans aren't so good and Fasano has been pretty solid so far with 197 yards and two touchdowns.
Mercedes Lewis, Jaguars
Jacksonville plays against a shaky Broncos pass defense and there are going to be opportunities for David Garrard to get Lewis the ball.
KICKERS AND DEFENSE
For a kicker, Lawrence Tynes should get a few opportunities because, well, the Giants score quite often.
As for defense, I think Carolina could have a good day against Tampa Bay.
Last week
Hits: Eli Manning, Ronnie Brown, Chris Cooley, Greg Olsen, Giants defense.
Misses: Jason Hanson.
So-so: Gus Frerotte, Ryan Grant, Steve Breaston, Reggie Brown.
