Golf
Women’s tourney begins in Lexington
LEXINGTON — The Women’s Southern Golf Association Senior Championship will begin today at Lexington Golf and Country Club.
Ninety-four players representing 13 states will compete in the 54-hole stroke-play event that runs through Thursday.
Anna Schultz, who has a handicap index of plus-2.6, leads a field that includes approximately 50 players with handicaps less than 10.
Top players from the area competing include Dot Bolling and Sara Cole of Salem, Ridgeway’s Fran Hensley, Cloverdale’s Janet Cochran and Becky Bondurant of Buchanan.

Auto racing
Rehagen Racing Mustang goes 1-2
DANVILLE, Va. — The Rehagen Racing Mustang team of Mike Canney, Hugh Plumb and Matt Plumb won the Grand-Am KONI Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday.
The team beat its sister Rehagen Racing Mustang by 0.208 seconds. Third went ot the TRG Porche team.
When the final points were tallied, Scott Maxwell and Joe Foster earned the season championship.

Soccer
Former Cavs drafted
CHARLOTTESVILLE — Three former Cavalier All-Americans were selected in the Women’s Professional Soccer General Draft.
The Washington Freedom selected Sarah Huffman first overall and Becky Sauerbrunn third overall. Lori Lindsey was selected by the Freedom in the third round with the 17th overall selection.

Equestrian
Hollins 5th
RADFORD — Hollins University finished fifth out of 10 teams at the Radford University Invitational on Sunday.
Virginia was seventh, Washington and Lee was ninth and Radford was 10th.
Randolph College won the event.
