Allen, Vardman move on

HOT SPRINGS — Sidney Allen of Forest and Jack Vardman of Hot Springs advanced to today’s second round of match play at the VSGA Senior Amateur Championship at The Homestead’s Cascades Course.

William Nunnenkamp of Blue Ridge was eliminated.

In the super senior division, Marvin Taylor of Roanoke and Dan Mitchell of Moneta advanced. Frank Kennedy of Roanoke fell to Mitchell 2 and 1.

Carlisle finishes 2nd

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — Midlothian’s James River High School shot a final round 14-over-par 302 to win the Independence Golf Club High School Invitational at Independence Golf Club.

James River finished at 21-over 597. Carlisle School finished second, four strokes back. Alex Wise paced the Chiefs with a two-day total of 144.

Pulaski postponed
PULASKI — Rain washed out the Appalachian League baseball playoff opener between the visiting Elizabethton Twins and Pulaski Mariners Wednesday. The game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. tonight at Calfee Park.
Game 2 and if necessary a third game will start 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Elizabethton.
