Salem-based AAU team places 2nd in nation

The Salem-based Virginia Attack 15U baseball team placed second in the AAU Division I national championship which ended July 17 at Kiwanis Field in Salem.

The team made it to the championship by winning five games in the double-elimination tournament but fell to the Tri-State Arsenal team in the title game.

The team was coached by Jim Stepp of Salem High School with assistants Pete Hudson of Christiansburg and Bobby Raymond of Giles.

The following players were part of the team:

n From Salem: Alex Stepp, Jonathan Alabran, Zach Harth, Karl Sorensen, Seth Fisher,Roy Stanford, Chris Shelton and Preston Kessler.

n From Glenvar: Trent Wilburn and Brad Gallagher. From Bedford; Bobby Newby and Clark Glover.

n From Botetourt: Lincoln Evans.

n From Christiansburg: Travis Hudson and Seth Martin.

n From Giles: Dylan Raymond.
