Wilkes falls in final
CHARLOTTESVILLE — Jack Wilkes, a rising junior at Cave Spring High School, advanced to the finals of the VSGA’s Junior Match Play Championship before falling 2-down to defending champion Michael Moyers on Friday.
Wilkes, 17, topped Bryce Chalkley, of Richmond, 2 and 1 in the morning’s semifinals at 6,736-yard, par-72 Birdwood Golf Course.
Moyers, a rising senior at William Monroe High School in Standardsville,  beat Trevor Times, of Williamsburg 4 and 3.
Both finalists scored early wins and the match was all square from the fifth through the 12th holes. But Moyer birdied Nos. 13 and 14 to pull away.

BASEBALL
Pulaski blasts Princeton
PULASKI — Kalian Sams pounded a pair of home runs as the Pulaski Mariners put on a fireworks show of their own Friday afternoon in a 14-3 Appy League win over Princeton.
Five of the Mariners’ 19 hits were home runs.
Sams drove in four runs. Catcher Juan Fuentes and first baseman Kris Sanchez each homered and drove in three.
Sanchez also had two doubles, Fuentes had one double and shortstop Mario Martino had three doubles.
Nick Czyz (2-1) gave up just one run one three hits and a walk in six innings to earn the win for the Pulaski (9-8).
