SOFTBALL
Tincher repeats as
ACC pitcher of year
Virginia Tech ace Angela Tincher was named the ACC pitcher of the year Wednesday for the third straight year.
Tincher (30-6) leads Division I with 532 strikeouts and ranks second in Division I in ERA (0.56 ERA). The James River graduate owns the ACC career marks for wins, strikeouts and innings pitched.
Tincher was joined on the All-ACC first team by Tech third baseman Charisse Mariconda.
The second team included Tech catcher Kelsey Hoffman, Tech center fielder Jenna Rhodes and UVa shortstop Carly Winger.
Also Wednesday, Tincher was named one of 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. It is the third straight year she made the final 10.
The Hokies are the second seed in the four-day ACC tournament, which begins today at Maryland. Defending champ Tech will face the Terrapins at 12:30 p.m. Eighth-seeded UVa meets top-seeded North Carolina at 3 p.m.
RU’s Taylor honored again by Big South
Radford University’s Ashley Taylor has been named the Big South pitcher of the year for the third straight season.
Taylor has 28 wins, setting league and school records. She also has 216 strikeouts, a 1.18 ERA and seven saves.
RU’s Shannon Keefe, who is batting .366 with 10 homers, was named freshman of the year. She also made the All-Big South first team as a utility player.
Keefe and Taylor were joined on the first team by five other Highlanders — outfielder Hope Creasy (Christiansburg), second baseman Jenn Everhart, third baseman Vicki Madden, shortstop Kristen Shifflett and catcher Sarah Himan.
The second team included RU outfielder Ashley Carlson and Winthrop pitcher Cari Wooldridge (Liberty High School). Creasy also made the all-academic team.
Radford is the second seed in the three-day Big South tournament, which begins today at Winthrop. RU will face Coastal Carolina or Charleston Southern at 5:30 p.m.

Generals honored
Washington and Lee center fielder Terrence McKelvey, who hit .407 this year, and catcher Will Lewis (.385) have made the All-ODAC first team.
Right fielder James Madden made the second team and was named ODAC scholar-athlete of the year. He hit .341 this year and has a 3.8 GPA.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Maroons, Generals cited
Roanoke College’s Matt Quinton has been named the ODAC rookie of the year.
Quinton, a sophomore from Canada, had 37 goals in his first year with the Maroons.
The All-ODAC first team included Roanoke’s Billy Cameron (Salem) and W&L’s Will Englehart, Harry St. John and James Shanahan. The second team included Roanoke’s Pat March and Chaz Carlson and W&L’s Spotty Robins.
