In its ninth season of ACC baseball play, Virginia Tech will face Virginia for the first time in ACC Tournament play.
Third-seeded UVa (45-9, 22-8 overall) and sixth-seeded Tech (35-19, 15-14) will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Cavaliers and Hokies are in Pool B with second-seeded Florida State (44-11, 20-10) and seventh-seeded Georgia Tech (33-23, 15-15).
Teams will play the other three teams in their pools before the Pool B winner meets the Pool A winner for the championship at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Although UVa had a better conference record than FSU, the Seminoles got the second seed by virtue of winning the Atlantic Division.
North Carolina won the Coastal Division by percentage points over Virginia.
The Hokies have played in the ACC Tournament only twice since joining the conference in 2004-2005.
They lost to Maryland in the first round in 2005, when single elimination was in force for the first round, and went 2-1 in 2010.
A tie-breaker prevented Tech from going to the title game that year.
The Hokies dropped a 16-5 decision to UVa on April 26 but have since won 10 of 11 games, including both ends of an April 27 double-header with the Cavaliers in Blacksburg.
UVa has won seven of its last eight games.
"I've told people that they've [the Hokies] got their best offensive club since I've been the coach here for 10 years," said UVa coach Brian O'Connor after an 11-inning, 8-7 victory at North Carolina on Saturday night.
"We're going to have to play as well as we did here this weekend."
