Ferrum picked 3rd in USA South football poll

Ferrum was picked third in the USA South preseason coaches poll Monday, finishing just two points out of the top spot.

Christopher Newport, whose league status has changed from all-sports member to football-only member, topped the poll with four first-place votes and 56 points. Huntingdon was second with three first-place votes and 55 points, followed by Ferrum with one first-place vote and 54 points.

Maryville was fourth with 44 points, followed by Methodist (which got one first-place vote), LaGrange, Greensboro, North Carolina Wesleyan and Averett.

CNU, Ferrum and Maryville finished in a tie atop the league standings last fall, with CNU reaping the league's Division III playoff bid.
