Virginia Tech baseball coach Pete Hughes was released from the hospital Friday, two days after suffering a heart attack.
Hughes tweeted Friday that he suffered a heart attack Wednesday. Hughes tweeted that he had driven himself to the hospital.
"He's doing great," associate athletic director Jon Jaudon said.
VT's Schultze 8th in NCAA pole vault
Virginia Tech's Martina Schultze finished eighth in the pole vault (13-11 1⁄4), earning first-team All-America honors, at the NCAA track and field championships in Eugene, Ore.
Tech's Ronnie Black was 11th in the high jump (7-2 1⁄2). UVa's Scott Porter was 16th in the 10,000 (30:14.96), the best result by a Cavalier in that event in 32 years, the best result by a Cavalier in that event in 32 years. Both earned second-team All-America honors.
UVa's Barbara Strehler was 22nd in the 5,000.
Tech promotes Moore
Virginia Tech men's basketball coach James Johnson has promoted Andy Moore from director of basketball operations to assistant coach.
Moore has previously been an assistant coach at Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Michigan.
He succeeds Mark Byington, who left in April to become Georgia Southern's coach.
Hoeys leave W&L
Three-time ODAC coach of the year Nate Hoey has resigned as W&L's women's track and field coach to take the same position at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
Hoey's wife, Kris, who was a seven-time ODAC coach of the year, has resigned as the W&L women's cross country coach. W&L has named assistant Kristin Cupido the interim women's cross country for the 2013 season.
