URBANA, Ill. - Virginia's Jamere Jenkins advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA singles championships with a wild 7-6 (8), 2-6, 6-4 win over Ray Sarmiento of USC on Friday at the University of Illinois.
Jenkins won it after a breaking Sarmiento's serve to go up 5-4 in the third set.
Jenkins becomes the first Cavalier since Somdev Davvarmen in 2007 to advance this far into the singles tournament.
In doubles, Jenkins paired with Mac Styslinger to comeback and beat Malte Stroppe and Jordan Angus of Mississippi State 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Jenkins and Styslinger went unbroken in the final two sets.
WOMEN'S GOLF
Park leads NCAA tournament
ATHENS, Ga. - Annie Park brought more than great skills to Southern California's women's golf team.
The bubbly freshman from Levittown, N.Y., also showed her new teammates how to enjoy their time on the course and ignore the pressure.
Park shot a 1-under 71 to top the individual standings and help Southern Cal win its third NCAA tournament title with a record-setting team performance Friday.
USC finished at 19-under 1,133 - 15 strokes better than the previous tournament mark set by UCLA in 2004 - to beat second-place Duke by 21 strokes at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Park finished at 10 under for a six-stroke victory over Duke's Lindy Duncan.
Duke's Courtney Ellenbogen (Blacksburg) shot an 81 in the final round and ended up tied for 50th.
South Carolina's Meredith Swanson (Hidden Valley) shot an 82 in the fourth round and ended up in a tie for 97th. The Gamecocks were 20th overall.

W&L's Shamshiri, Holt advance to NCAA DIII doubles semifinals
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Washington and Lee sophomore Taylor Shamshiri and freshman Michael Holt advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III doubles tournament by topping No. 2 seed Adam Putterman and Ross Putterman from Washington University, 6-2, 6-4.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Radford sophomore hurdler Vincent Wyatt advanced to the quarterfinals in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.86 seconds - the fourth fastest time in school history.
NCAA Division III meet
LACROSSE, Wis. - Roanoke College senior Carmen Graves (Christiansburg) advanced to the 800 finals after finishing third in her semifinal heat.
Freshman Lexie Jannie (Lord Botetourt) competed in the 400-meter dash and finished fifth in her heat with a time 56.70, but missed the finals.
