Radford hires Abby Oliver as director of basketball operations

Radford hires Oliver

Mike McGuire, the new women’s basketball coach at Radford University, has hired Hidden Valley High School graduate Abby Oliver as his director of basketball operations.

Oliver played for McGuire at Hidden Valley. She was a two-time Timesland player of the year and helped the Titans win two state titles.

Oliver and McGuire then moved on to the University of Richmond. Oliver was a standout for the Spiders from 2008-12, earning All-Atlantic 10 honors and finishing as the seventh-leading scorer in the program’s history. McGuire spent the past five seasons as a Richmond assistant before getting hired by Radford.

VMI’s Baucom to speak to area sports club

VMI men’s basketball coach Duggar Baucom will be the guest speaker at the Roanoke Valley Sports Club meeting Monday at the Salem Civic Center.

The meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. Nonmembers interested in attending should call 588-2969.
