In a program first, VMI will take one of its 14 scheduled spring football workouts on the road.
The Keydets, who open drills today in Lexington, will conduct the first of their two scheduled spring scrimmages on Saturday, Apr. 20 at Roanoke’s William Fleming High.
“Our team is very excited to be able to bring our practice to Roanoke,” fifth-year VMI coach Sparky Woods said in a school release Tuesday. “It is a great opportunity to mix and show our appreciation to our loyal Keydet supporters in the beautiful Roanoke Valley. Roanoke is our closest city and our alumni are very loyal.”
The intrasquad scrimmage will run from noon to 2 p.m. Activities for what’s being billed as “VMI Day” will begin at 10 a.m at Fleming’s 2-year-old stadium.
VMI will conduct its final spring scrimmage on Apr. 27 at Foster Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
The Keydets, who are coming off a second straight 2-9 season, are scheduled to don pads for the first time next Wednesday.
