College basketball: James Madison captures CAA crown, NCAA bid

RICHMOND - A.J. Davis scored 26 points and James Madison put together an early 23-1 run before holding off a furious rally to beat Northeastern 70-57 on Monday night in the Colonial Athletic Association championship game.
Rayshawn Goins added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the third-seeded Dukes (20-14), who won their conference tournament for the first time to earn their first berth in the NCAA tournament since 1994.
Jonathan Lee led the regular-season champion Huskies (20-12) with 14 points, all in the second half.
Andre Nation added 10 points for James Madison.
No. 1 Gonzaga 65, Saint Mary's 51
LAS VEGAS - Kelly Olynyk had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and top-ranked Gonzaga (31-2) bolstered its case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament by routing Saint Mary's (27-6) in the West Coast Conference final.
Elias Harris added 19 points for Gonzaga.
Iona 60, Manhattan 57
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Tre Bowman scored 20 points and Iona earned a berth in the NCAA tournament with a win over Manhattan in the MAAC championship game.
Lamont Jones added 14 points and earned tournament MVP honors for the fourth-seeded Gaels (20-13), who will be making their second consecutive trip to the NCAAs.
Michael Alvarado had 14 points for Manhattan (14-18).
W.Kentucky 65, FIU 63
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - George Fant had 17 points and 13 rebounds and Western Kentucky earned its second straight NCAA tournament berth with a win over Florida International (18-14) in the Sun Belt Conference championship game.
The fifth-seeded Hilltoppers (20-15) won four games in four days to secure their fourth NCAA tournament appearance in six seasons .
Cameron Bell led Florida International with 15 points.
Davidson 74, College of Charleston 55
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - De'Mon Brooks had 24 points and eight rebounds, and Davidson defended its Southern Conference championship with a wire-to-wire victory over the College of Charleston.
With two-time conference player of the year Jake Cohen had 12 points despite playing less than half of the game because of foul trouble.
Andrew Lawrence had 19 points for Charleston .

Laing out at Campbell
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Robbie Laing is out as Campbell's coach, the school announced.
Laing, 55, was 114-185 in 10 seasons at Campbell, which went 13-20, 7-9 in the Big South this season.
E&H coach resigns
Emory & Henry has announced the resignation of Paul Russo, who steered the Wasps men's basketball team the past six seasons.
Russo was 42-112 at his alma mater.
