GREENSBORO, N.C. — Virginia Tech sophomore Kaylea Arnett and senior Logan Shinholser won silver medals in diving on Day 2 of the ACC championships.
Ellen Williamson led a Virginia sweep of the 200 IM and Kelly Offutt led a Cavaliers’ sweep in the 500 free. Virginia’s Lauren Perdue was second in the 50 free.
Virginia’s women are in first place with 309 points after Friday’s events. The Hokies (166) are third.
Virginia Tech’s men lead with 50 points. The Cavaliers’ men (20) are fourth.
Radford, VMI compete in CCSA meet
ATHENS, Ga. — The Highlanders’ women are in ninth place in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship.
Florida Gulf Coast leads the women’s event with 245 points. Radford is ninth (37) and VMI 12th (15).
VMI’s Raymond Long was fourth in the men’s 3-meter diving, followed by teammate Nate Myers in fifth.
The Keydets (97) are fourth in the men’s standings. Davidson is the leader at 265,5.
Ferrum 7, Maine-Presque Isle 2
FERRUM — Taryn Hayden’s 2-RBI single in the bottom of the third inning drove in the eventual game-winning run as Ferrum (5-5) picked up a 7-2 non-conference baseball win over Maine-Presque Isle.
Hayden went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while teammate Jeffrey Swoope went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and Eddie McGrath went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Cam Morrell went 2-for-2 for the Owls (1-5).
ACC meet gets underway
BLACKSBURG — Virginia’s Anna Finger finished fourth in the pentathlon with 3,659 points and the Cavaliers women are fourth after the first day of competition in the ACC Indoor Track and Field championships.
Virginia Tech’s Scott Campbell is in second place in the men’s heptathlon with 2,819 points after the first day.
Radford men, women 4th in Big South
WINSTON-SALEM, NC — The Radford men’s and women’s teams are each in a fourth-place tie after the first day of the Big South championships.
The Highlanders won both the men’s and women’s distance medley relays, and Kaleice Green scored and all-conference finish of 5.41 for third place in the long jump.
