Radford teaches hoops 101

RADFORD -- Radford scored the first 20 points en route to defeating Virginia Intermont 101-36 on Monday night.

All 13 players saw action and scored as the Highlanders (2-2) netted 100 points in a game for the first time since Jan. 11, 1997 against Winthrop.

It is the second-largest margin of victory by Radford in school history. The Highlanders defeated Bluefield 131-38 during the 1975-76 season.

Radford shot 49 percent from the field, had 28 assists and outrebounded Virginia Intermont 61-27. It was the most rebounds since RU pulled down 71 at Coastal Carolina on Feb. 1, 2003.

The Highlanders also forced 32 turnovers which resulted in 33 points and held the Cobras (0-4) to 26-percent shooting.

Sarah Stephens led all scorers with 18 points. Northside's Corrie Fertitta (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Kelli Darden (10 and 10) posted double-doubles.

Westminster 89, So. Virginia 51

SALT LAKE CITY -- Southern Virginia concluded its trip to Utah with a loss to Westminster College.

Kendra Romito scored a season-high 22 points for the Knights (0-8) while also grabbing a game-high six rebounds.

Shannon Evans scored a game-high 26 points for Westminster (6-4).

MEN

Eastern Mennonite 73, Ferrum 67

FERRUM -- Eastern Mennonite shot almost 52 percent from the floor in the first half and went on to victory over Ferrum.

Jared Lyons and Jason Sager scored 16 points apiece to lead the Royals (3-1), who led 38-28 at halftime after the hot-shooting half.

Cedric Jones and Jon Godsey finished with a double-doubles for the Panthers (3-2). Jones scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Godsey had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Liberty 109, Southern Virginia 64

LYNCHBURG -- Larry Blair had 18 points to lead five Liberty players in double figures as the Flames (3-1) beat Southern Virginia.

Tanner Johnson led Southern Virginia (4-7) with 18 points.

Liberty coach Randy Dunton recorded his 100th career collegiate win.

Averett 81, Virginia Wesleyan 73

DANVILLE -- Averett guard Jonathan Rumley tallied 12 points, 10 rebounds, and dished out eight assists to lead the Cougars (4-0) to a win over No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan.

The Cougars' win snapped a 29-game winning streak by the defending NCAA Division III champions.

TonTon Balenga led the Marlins (1-1) with 26 points.
