Roanoke men earn 1,300th win

Roanoke 81, EMU 79

HARRISONBURG - Junior forward Zach Barrett scored a career-high 18 points and fellow ex-Hidden Valley standout Logan Singleton scored on a layup with two seconds left to lift Roanoke to an 81-79 ODAC victory over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday night.

The victory was the 1,300th in program history, allowing the Maroons to become the 21st Division III school in the nation with that many wins.

Barrett, who entered the contest averaging only 2.2 points per game, was 7-for-9 from the field and 2-for-3 from 3-point range. He also had six rebounds.

Singleton, the Maroons' 6-foot-9 center, had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Roanoke (5-13, 2-7 ODAC), which had lost six of its previous seven games.

Kwasi Amponsah had 14 points for Roanoke, which rallied from a 48-39 deficit.

Andrew Thorne's 18 points paced EMU (8-11, 3-7).

Ferrum 76, G'boro 70

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Marcus Mayo scored 13 of his 25 points in the second half to lead Ferrum to a USA South win over Greensboro. Daryl Hart had 12 points and Jamal Pullen 10 for the Panthers (10-8, 3-3 USA South).

Tjani Lugman led Greensboro (12-6, 4-2) with 19 points.

SVU 90, Apprentice 59

BUENA VISTA - Casey Nye had 21 points, five assists and seven rebounds as Southern Virginia (9-8) pounded Apprentice School (14-6).

WOMEN

Radford 63, G-W 50

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Da'Naria Erwin Spencer scored 21 points and Sarah Tabb added a career-high 16 as Radford (9-10, 3-5 Big South) beat Gardner-Webb (2-16, 1-7).

Ashley Buckhannon (George Wythe) scored 11 points for the Highlanders.

W&L 71, E&H 50

EMORY - Meg Ingram and Katy Wilson scored 19 points apiece to lead the Generals to an ODAC win over Emory & Henry (2-12, 1-11 ODAC). Becca Bolton had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Washington and Lee (7-10, 5-7) and Rachel Warrick had 12 points.

Guilford 67, Roa. 62, OT

Gabby Oglesby scored 22 points, including the go-ahead basket with 35 seconds left in overtime, to give Guilford (14-3, 11-1 ODAC) some breathing room in its league win over Roanoke College (4-11, 4-7).

Roanoke's Paxton Gwin hit a bucket with 39 seconds left in regulation to tie the score at 57 and force overtime. Gwin led the Maroons with 17 points and nine rebounds. Nicci Moats had 14 points and 19 rebounds, but also turned the ball over 10 times.

Ferrum 82, Peace 52

FERRUM - Tesla Akers posted a game-high 18 points to lead Ferrum to a USA South victory over Peace (2-16, 1-10 USA South). Katy Kipps (Blacksburg) contributed 12 points for the Panthers (14-4, 9-2 USA South).

SVU 84, Bennett 48

BUENA VISTA - Nicole Baker scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Southern Virginia schooled Bennett (7-8). Cara Joyner had 15 points and nine boards for the Knights (8-7).

Hollins 72, Randolph 59

LYNCHBURG - Lacie Forrest scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Hollins scored an ODAC win over Randolph (3-15, 0-13 ODAC). Jasmine Greene had 18 points and 11 boards and Lauren Morris had 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for Hollins (7-10, 6-7).
