Bryant ends Hokies win streak
BLACKSBURG -- Peter Kelich allowed five hits and one earned run over eight innings to lead Bryant to a 5-3 win over the Virginia Tech baseball team, ending the Hokies' nine-game winning streak.
Virginia Tech (9-3) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but Bryant scored three runs in the third, added one in the fourth, and never lost the lead.
Dylan Stone had four hits for Bryant (2-7) and Jamie Skagerlind and Nick Campbell each added two hits and an RBI.
Anthony Sosnoskie led Virginia Tech with two hits.
BASEBALL
Ferrum 23, PSU-Harrisburg 0, 7 inn.
FERRUM -- Justin Franklin totaled three hits and six RBIs to lead Ferrum (9-2) to a blowout win.
As a team, the Panthers piled up 22 RBIs and 12 hits.
Tyler Milstead, Jacob Dameron and Josh Jordon combined for the shutout.
Virginia 12, W&M 6
WILLIAMSBURG -- Top-ranked Virginia trailed 5-1 in the sixth inning before exploding for 11 runs in its final four at-bats in a victory over William and Mary (6-5).
Steven Proscia and Jarrett Parker each homered and drove in four runs for the Cavaliers (10-2).
SOFTBALL
Virginia wins pair
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- The Cavaliers beat Norfolk State 9-1 and 3-2 in a doubleheader.
Nicole Koren and Kristen Hawkins both hit home runs in the first game while Kennedy Byxbee went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Virginia (10-9) in the second game.
Koren earned the win in the first game, allowing one hit in five innings and Melanie Mitchell struck out 16 batters to earn the win in the second game.
SVU doubles up
PETERSBURG -- Southern Virginia swept Virginia State in a double-header, winning 4-0 in the first game and 9-5 in the second.
Abigail Baxter had two hits to lead SVU (5-3) in the first game and Amanda Otto drove in five runs on three hits to lead the way in the second game.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Ferrum 22, Hollins 2
Cara Jacobs scored six goals to lead the Panthers (4-1) past Hollins (0-1).
TRACK AND FIELD
Hokies honored
Virginia Tech senior hurdler Queen Harrison has been named the Southeast Region women's track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Tech freshman Alexander Ziegler, a student from Germany who is a standout in the weight throw, was named the region's male field athlete of the year.
Tech throws coach Greg Jack was named the region's men's assistant coach of the year.
