Virginia wrestling team wins ACC tournament
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Virginia won the team championship of the ACC wrestling tournament for the first time since 1977. The Cavaliers racked up 85 points to win, while Virginia Tech was third with 78.5 points.
The Cavaliers and Hokies squared off for first at 184, with Virginia's Mike Salopek taking a 2-0 decision over Virginia Tech's Tommy Spellman. Salopek's win sealed Virginia's team title.
Virginia's Chris Henrich beat North Carolina's Thomas Fergeson at 174 on a 20-5 technical fall.
One of Virginia Tech's four individual titles came at 165, where Matt Epperly beat Maryland's Josh Asper 8-3.
At 157, Hokie sophomore Jesse Dong won his first ACC title by beating Maryland's Kyle John, 7-5.
Brian Stephens of Virginia Tech won at 149 by beating Virginia's Shawn Harris, 8-4.
Virginia's Matt Snyder (133) and Virginia Tech's Chris Diaz (141) both took second place. Snyder lost to Maryland's Steve Bell (2-1) and Diaz to Alex Krom of Maryland, 6-4.
Virginia Tech's Jarrod Garnett defeated Ross Gitomer of Virginia, 4-1, to take the championship at 125.
MEN'S LACROSSE
Roanoke 21, Cabrini 7
Behind a 17-save performance from goalie Jake Dorsey, host Roanoke (5-0) rolled over Cabrini in Salem. The Maroons got four goals from senior Pat March.
Washington and Lee 9, Washington College 5
LEXINGTON -- Washington and Lee (5-0) scored eight of the first nine goals in the win over Washington (Md.) College. Drew Koeneman had two goals and an assist for the 10th-ranked Generals.
Robert Morris 19, VMI 8
LEXINGTON -- VMI (3-3) trailed 14-4 at the half in the loss to Division I's highest scoring team. Colin Bosse scored three times for the Keydets.

LEXINGTON -- Sam Roberts and Steele Myers each drove in five runs and VMI (9-0) totaled 23 hits. Coby Cowgill struck out nine and allowed one hit in six innings for the Keydets.
Virginia Tech takes 2
BLACKSBURG -- Jesse Hahn and Joe Mantiply both notched wins as Virginia Tech (7-2) swept Long Island.
Hahn went seven innings and struck out nine in the Hokies' 6-0 win. Mantiply struck out eight in an 11-0 win.
Virginia 14, Dartmouth 3
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Virginia (7-2) scored six times in the second and eight times in the fourth.
Tyler Cannon collected two hits, scored twice, and drove in three runs for the Cavaliers.
Radford 4, Bucknell 2
ELON, N.C. -- Matt Mack hit a solo homer and Eddie Butler struck out six in five innings for Radford (3-5).
W&L splits ODAC games
LYNCHBURG -- Washington and Lee (2-5, 1-1) lost its ODAC opener to Lynchburg, 3-1, but rallied for a 9-2 win in the nightcap.
John Ditore went 5-for-9 with three runs scored, while Roger Strong picked up the win in the second game, striking out six.
So. Virginia sweeps
BUENA VISTA -- Tyler Cox drove in seven runs in Southern Virginia's 25-4 win over Hiwasee and Jack Johnson hit a homer in the Knight's 8-3 win.
SOFTBALL
Virginia Tech goes 1-1
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Virginia Tech split a pair of games at the Under Armour Invitational, falling to No. 24 Massachusetts 3-0 before beating Quinnipiac 2-1.
Ashton Ward pitched seven innings in the Hokie win, allowing one unearned run and striking out seven. She also had the game-winning double in the eighth.
Radford wins 2
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Heather Paquette pitched a one-hit shutout for Radford in a 9-0 win over St. Joseph's at the Under Armour Invitational.
The Highlanders also beat Villanova, 3-1, behind a complete game by Chelsea Kelley.
Christmas fans 12
SWEET BRIAR -- Southern Virginia's Kayla Christmas struck out 12 batters in a 4-2 win over Sweet Briar. The Knights (1-4) lost the second game, 3-2.
