Top-ranked UVa defeated
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Wright State scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a suicide squeeze and made it stand in a 2-1 victory over No. 1 Virginia on Friday.
The Cavaliers fell to 6-2 and had a five-game winning streak snapped.
Starting pitchers Danny Hultzen of Virginia and Alex Kaminsky of Wright State battled for seven innings before the bullpens took over.
Kaminsky (1-1) pitched seven strong innings for the Raiders, allowing one earned run on seven hits while striking out seven. Greg Robinson came on in the eighth inning and pitched two scoreless frames to earn his first save.
Hultzen (2-1) went seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned), five hits and no walks while striking out nine for Virginia. It marked just the second loss in Hultzen's career (11-2).
Dan Grovatt and Franco Valdeseach had a pair of hits for the Cavaliers.
In the first inning the Cavaliers jumped out to the early lead, as Phil Gosselin led off with a double and scored two outs later on a single to left by Steven Proscia.
UVa, which came into the game with three errors through seven games, committed three Friday.
The first led to Wright State's third-inning run. Gerald Ogrinc grounded to shortstop Tyler Cannon to lead off the inning, but the throw was short and skipped past first base for an error.
The Raiders grabbed the lead in the sixth inning. Moore and Quentin Cate started the inning with consecutive singles. McGrew then reached on a fielder's choice, moving Moore to third, and Garrett Gray followed with a suicide squeeze bunt to score Moore.

LEXINGTON -- VMI scored a season-high 18 runs and improved to 8-0 with the home win. The Keydets led 10-1 after three innings. Cory Spangenberg had four hits, including two doubles and a home run.

BLACKSBURG -- Virginia Tech (5-2) scored five of its runs on three home runs in the third inning.
Michael Seaborn had a three-run homer, his second of the season, in the third. Justin Wright allowed one run and struck out five in seven innings.
Radford 9,

ELON, N.C. -- Alex Guerra's game-winning single in the 11th inning capped Radford's rally from five runs down.
The Highlanders trailed 8-3 after four innings and scored the game-tying run on an error with two outs in the ninth.
Tyren Rivers went 3-for-5 with two runs and two runs batted in.
S. Virginia sweeps pair
BUENA VISTA -- Southern Virginia swept Hiwassee in a double-header, winning both games by the same 12-2 score.
Andrew Snider went a combined 5-for-5 with seven RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Hokies ride pitching
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Virginia Tech earned two wins at the Under Armour Showcase, beating Chattanooga 4-0 and Boston University 3-1.
Kenzie Roark struck out 10 batters and allowed just one hit in the Hokies' victory over Chattanooga.
Jasmin Harrell got the win against Boston University, allowing an unearned run while striking out seven.
Radford splits in Fla.
CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Radford opened play at the Under Armour Invitational with a 4-1 loss to UAB then rallied for a 5-1 win over Toledo.
Shannon Keefe's two-run double in the third keyed the Highlanders' win.
Chelsea Kelley (Cave Spring) picked up the win against Toledo.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Maryland 11, Virginia 5
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Second-ranked Maryland (4-0) scored seven unanswered goals in an 11-5 win over #9 Virginia.
The Cavaliers led 5-4 with 9:43 left in the first half but did not score again.
Kaitlin Duff scored two goals for the Cavaliers.
