The Virginia men's basketball game scheduled for tonight at Maryland has been postponed until Monday, the University of Maryland announced.
The time and TV channel for Monday's game has not yet been announced.
ACC, Maryland and UVa officials decided Tuesday to postpone the game because the Washington, D.C., area was expecting another major snowstorm to hit Tuesday and today, on top of last weekend's winter storm. The University of Maryland police chief and the vice president for facilities management were involved in the decision.
Maryland did play its home game Saturday with North Carolina, although the campus has been shut down since last Friday.
"Large portions of game day parking lots and sidewalks ... remain impassible," the University of Maryland said in a news release. "Director of athletics Deborah Yow and head men's basketball coach Gary Williams have expressed their appreciation for all the work done by campus employees and the athletics staff that allowed the UNC game to be played under challenging circumstances. Those circumstances now move from being challenging to impossible for campus staff to manage, with the second major snowstorm approaching in less than a week."
Stringer suspended
Rutgers suspended Hall of Fame women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer for one game for misusing practice players.
Stringer will miss the Scarlet Knights' game against Seton Hall today.
Stringer violated an NCAA bylaw which states that managers may not participate as practice players with the institution's team if they are not eligible student-athletes.
Rutgers only has nine players on its roster.
