No. 10 Duke tops Ga. Tech

DURHAM, N.C. -- Kyle Singler had career highs of 30 points and eight 3-pointers to lead No. 10 Duke past No. 21 Georgia Tech 86-67 on Thursday night.

Jon Scheyer added 21 points for the Blue Devils (18-4, 6-2), who were strong inside and outside -- hitting nearly 67 percent of their 3s and dominating Georgia Tech's foul-plagued front line.

Duke held a 40-32 rebounding edge and remained atop the ACC by claiming an easy win in a matchup of the league's only two ranked teams.

Zachery Peacock scored the Yellow Jackets' first 11 points, but didn't score after that. Leading scorers Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors were in foul trouble for Georgia Tech (16-6, 4-4).

Maryland 71, Florida State 67

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Greivis Vasquez scored 21 points as Maryland (15-6, 5-2 ACC) withstood a late rally to beat Florida State (16-5, 4-4).

Maryland led by as many as nine points in the second half, but FSU tied the game twice in the final 3 minutes and had the ball with 38 seconds left, trailing 66-64.

Freshman Michael Snaer drove to the hoop and made a runner but was called for charging with 14.5 seconds left.

Derwin Kitchen scored a career-high 29 points to lead Florida State.

Vasquez added seven assists and seven rebounds for Maryland, while Landon Milbourne scored 18 points.

VMI 97, Presbyterian 78

LEXINGTON -- Austin Kenon and Stan Okoye scored 23 points apiece, leading five VMI players in double-figure scoring.

Ron Burks and Michael Sparks added 14 points apiece, while Keith Gabriel finished with 13 for the Keydets (8-14, 3-9 Big South ), who snapped a two-game losing streak.

With the win, VMI moves into a tie with Gardner-Webb for eighth place in the Big South. The eighth spot in the standings is the last to make the conference tournament.

Kenon nailed five 3-pointers for VMI while Burks, Okoye and Sparks each hit three 3s.

Both VMI (40.9 percent) and Presbyterian (40 percent) had similar marks from beyond the arc, but the Keydets were 18-for-44 compared to a 6-for-15 night for the Blue Hose.

The Blue Hose went on a 22-8 run to open the game, but the 3-ball started falling for VMI after that. The Keydets hit 11 3s in under 13 minutes to take a 57-39 halftime lead.

Chase Holmes scored 21 points for Presbyterian (4-20, 2-10).

No. 8 Purdue 78, Indiana 75

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Robbie Hummel and JaJuan Johnson each scored 21 points, and No. 8 Purdue held off Indiana.

The Boilermakers (19-3, 7-3 Big Ten) won in Bloomington for the first time since 1999 to snap an eight-game road skid against the Hoosiers..

Indiana's Verdell Jones III, who led the Hoosiers (9-12, 3-6) with 22 points, missed a long 3-pointer at the buzzer that could have forced overtime.

No. 14 Tennessee 59, LSU 54

BATON ROUGE, La. --Wayne Chism scored 20 points to lead Tennessee (17-4, 5-2 SEC).

No. 23 Butler 63, Detroit 58

INDIANAPOLIS -- Gordon Hayward had 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading No. 23 Butler (19-4, 12-0 Horizon League).

WOMEN

Virginia 82, Clemson 60

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Monica Wright moved into fifth place on the ACC's all-time scoring list and host Virginia (16-6, 5-3 ACC) defeated Clemson (11-13, 2-6) for the seventh straight time.

Wright finished with 25 points on 10 for 15 shooting, bringing her career total to 2,293, which surpassed former North Carolina guard Ivory Latta's 2,285 points on the ACC career scoring list. It was Wright's 14th 20-point performance of the season.

Whitny Edwards added 13 points and six rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Roanoke 67, Randolph-Macon 66

Rebecca Bays' layup with seven seconds left capped a second-half comeback for the Maroons (18-2, 15-1) in an ODAC victory over visiting Randolph-Macon.

Roanoke shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the second half and held Randolph-Macon to just 31 percent shooting.

Nicci Moats totaled her fourth double-double of the season with 16 pints and 10 rebounds for the Maroons.

Jordan Gholson had 16 points on 7 for 10 shooting from the floor with five rebounds.

Caitlin Long added 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and three steals for Roanoke.

Washington & Lee 53, Randolph College 51

LYNCHBURG -- Meg Ingram scored a season-high 21 points for the visiting Generals (10-8, 9-5) in an ODAC victory.

Washington & Lee went on 12-4 scoring run in the final 9:18 to seal the win and the Generals forced nine second-half turnovers for their fifth win in six games.

Ingram, who scored 12 of her 21 points in the second half, connected on 7 for 16 shots from the field, including 4 for 8 from 3-point range.

Becca Bolton grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for W&L.

Tech game moved up

Virginia Tech's women's basketball game against Wake Forest today has been moved up to 4 p.m. at Cassell Coliseum because of the winter storm.

W&L game changed

The Washington and Lee men's home game with Guilford scheduled for Saturday has been moved up to 7 tonight because of the storm.

W&L senior forward Ben Goetsch has been named to the academic all-district first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
