Salem hosts D-III all-stars
The first Division III Football Senior Classic, a North vs. South all-star game featuring 90 players, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Salem Stadium.
The rosters include Grayson County graduate DeRon Brown of MIT and Washington and Lee players Matt Cassilly, Charlie Craigle and Donovan Sawyer.
Grimm, Cassilly are Dudley finalists
Virginia Tech linebacker Cody Grimm is one of three finalists for the Dudley Award, which will be presented Tuesday to the state Division I player of the year.
The other finalists are Richmond quarterback Eric Ward and James Madison defensive end Arthur Moats. Voting is done by a media panel, and each school can nominate only one of its players.
The finalists for the small-college Dudley Award are Washington and Lee defensive end Matt Cassilly, Emory and Henry running back Caleb Jennings and Hampden-Sydney defensive end Will Riggenbach.
The awards will be presented by the Touchdown Club of Richmond. At Tuesday's banquet, the club will recognize Virginia defensive tackle Nate Collins as its defensive lineman of the year.
Georgia end jailed
ATHENS, Ga. -- Georgia defensive end Montez Robinson was suspended indefinitely from the team Friday following his arrest Thursday on charges involving two altercations with a female student.
Robinson, 19, was released from the Athens-Clarke County jail on $2,000 bond Friday afternoon after being charged with misdemeanor simple battery and felony criminal damage.
It was Robinson's second arrest in a week. He was charged with underage possession of alcohol Monday after police responded to a call about glass breaking in a parking deck.
Coach Mark Richt said he was "certainly disappointed" as he announced Robinson's suspension.
Fight could affect bowl plans for Michigan State
LANSING, Mich. -- A campus altercation involving Michigan State football players and fraternity members could affect the Spartans' bowl destination.
Alamo Bowl officials say they are monitoring the fallout from the Nov. 22 incident that has led to the suspension of 10 Michigan State players. No charges have been filed, but police are still investigating.
Rick Hill, the Alamo Bowl's vice president of marketing, said Friday the incident is one of several factors that will be discussed before bowl selections are announced Sunday. Hill said it's not clear how much weight the selection committee will give to the incident.
Michigan State officials said they are keeping officials from the Alamo and Insight bowls updated on the incident.
MAC CHAMPIONSHIP

DETROIT -- Dan LeFevour had a pair of record-breaking touchdown passes in the first half and Central Michigan beat Ohio on Friday night for the Mid-American Conference championship.

Central Michigan didn't do much offensively after halftime, but held on to win the MAC title for the third time in four years.
The Chippewas (11-2) are expected to play in GMAC Bowl.
Ohio (9-4) likely will make a return trip to Detroit for the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
