Ferrum wins; H-SC crowned

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Thomas Porter ran for two touchdowns as Ferrum (5-5, 3-4 USA South) held off Maryville 21-14 on Saturday.

The Panthers amassed 253 rushing yards. Steven Harris posted 91 yards on 12 carries while Mike Vann had 57 yards on 12 attempts.

Vann's 60-yard kickoff return set up Makya Jackson's 31-yard touchdown run for the deciding points.

The Scots finished 4-6, 3-4 in the conference, on the season.

Hampden-Sydney 34, Randolph Macon 27

ASHLAND -- No. 18 Hampden-Sydney used a late kick return touchdown to squeak by Randolph-Macon before a crowd of more than 5,000 in the 115th edition of "The Game."

Following an R-MC (6-4, 4-2 ODAC) touchdown run by Thaddeus Scruggs that tied the score at 27-27 with 13:02 to go in the game; Steven Fogleman took the ensuing kickoff and went 90 yards for what proved to be the winning touchdown for H-SC.

The Tigers (10-0, 6-0) won the school's second league title in the last three years and earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III playoffs.

E&H 17, Guilford 3

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Caleb Jennings rushed for 239 yards and a touchdown as Emory & Henry (7-3, 3-3 ODAC) defeated Guilford (3-7, 2-4).

Jennings added 64 punt return yards and finished with 297 all-purpose yards in both teams' season finale.

Richmond 49, Georgetown 10

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Eric Ward threw two touchdown passes and four different Richmond players had rushing scores as the Spiders routed Georgetown (D.C.)

Richmond (9-1, 6-1 CAA) remains in a three-way tie for first place in the CAA South with Villanova and William and Mary. The Spiders host William and Mary next Saturday with at least a share of the conference title at stake.

JMU 17, UMass 14

AMHERST, Mass. -- Scott Noble ran for 105 yards and quarterback Justin Thorpe gained 89 more as James Madison (5-5, 3-4 CAA) won for the first time in Amherst since 1987.

Thorpe also threw for 120 yards, completing 8 of 13 passes.

Bridgewater 30, Catholic 13

BRIDGEWATER -- Thomas Tate rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown to lead Bridgewater (7-3, 4-2) to an ODAC win over Catholic (1-9, 0-6).

N.C. Wesleyan 49, Averett 27

DANVILLE -- Bo Jordan scored five rushing touchdowns and North Carolina Wesleyan (8-2, 7-0) had 529 yards of total offense to claim the USA South championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament with the win over Averett (7-3, 5-2).

Greensboro 23, Shenandoah 20

WINCHESTER -- Greensboro (6-4, 4-3) scored nine fourth-quarter points to rally for a USA South win at Shenandoah (1-9, 0-7).

George Wolff kicked the game-winning 45-yard field goal with 2:58 left in the game.

Methodist 10, Christopher Newport 9

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Christopher Newport (5-5, 4-3) had a game-tying extra-point attempt blocked with 2:22 left in the loss at Methodist (3-7, 2-5) in a USA South game.

Southern Virginia 14, Apprentice 10

NEWPORT NEWS -- Southern Virginia (3-8) rallied from a 10-0 deficit to close out its season with a road win over Newport News Apprentice (1-8).

Liberty 51, Gardner-Webb 28

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Tommy Beecher threw three touchdown passes and Mike Brown rushed for two scores to help Liberty pull away from Gardner-Webb.

Liberty (8-2, 5-0 Big South) took sole possession of first place in the league following Stony Brook's 30-27 overtime loss to Charleston Southern. Liberty plays at Stony Brook next week.

William & Mary 20, New Hampshire 17

WILLIAMSBURG -- Brian Pate kicked a 37-yard field goal with 2:54 left to lift William and Mary to a win over New Hampshire (8-2, 5-2 CAA).

William and Mary needs to beat Richmond and have Villanova lose to Delaware next Saturday to claim the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season title.

Norfolk State 21, Delaware State 16

DOVER, Del. -- Chris Bell caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Dennis Brown with 49 seconds left and Norfolk State overcame a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Delaware State.

Faulkner 24, UVa-Wise 21

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- UVa-Wise (5-6) lost its season finale as Faulkner (2-9) scored the game's final 17 points.

Matt Barbour caught eight passes for 165 yards and a 67-yard touchdown along with rushed 4 yards for his first rushing TD. He also caught the second-half, two-point conversion. Brad Ricker pulled in five passes for 91 yards with a five-yard score.

Hampton 25, Florida A&M 0

HAMPTON -- Steve Robinson carried 17 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns and Hampton (5-5, 2-4 MEAC) rolled up 341 rushing yards in a victory over Florida A&M.
