Moton has career game for highlanders
RADFORD -- Radford's Taleia Moton scored a career and game-high 20 points to lead the Highlanders over Coastal Carolina 65-56 Saturday in the return of women's hoops to the newly refurbished Dedmon Center.
Trailing 35-33 at the 13:27 mark of the second half, Radford's defense keyed a 16-2 run over the next 5:13 to give the Highlanders a 49-37 lead with just over eight minutes remaining. Radford scored 11 points off of eight Chanticleer turnovers led by senior Johnette Walker who tallied seven of those points.
In the second half, Radford (5-12, 4-2 Big South) forced 19 Coastal Carolina (10-8, 2-3) turnovers leading to 17 points. Radford committed just three turnovers and finished the game with a season-low eight.
The Chanticleers made one last push in the last minute to cut the Highlanders' lead to 61-55 with 28 seconds left, but Walker and Moton iced the game, each hitting a pair of free throws.
Sydnei Moss led the Chanticleers with 16 points and Kendra Reynolds scored 12.
Washington and Lee 78, Emory & Henry 46
LEXINGTON -- Meghan Ingram scored 25 points as the Generals cruised to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the Wasps.
The Generals (7-8, 7-4) used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to take a 30-15 lead at the 7:33 mark and led 44-23 at halftime.
W&L then extended its lead to as many as 35 points (78-34) in the second half and closed out with the 32-point win.
The Generals held the Wasps to just 35.8 percent shooting (19-of-53) and forced 27 Emory & Henry turnovers.
Felice Herman registered her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds for W&L. Allie Long added nine points and three steals, while senior forward Kara Nadeau grabbed eight boards.
The Wasps (3-11, 2-8) were led by junior forward Alex Lyons' 15 points and five rebounds.
Roanoke 75, Guilford 65
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Caitlyn Long hit four 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the Maroons over the Quakers in ODAC play.
Roanoke took the lead into the intermission behind 12 first-half points by Long. The lead remained at three six minutes into the second half before Roanoke went on a 14-4 run over the next five minutes to extend the lead to 63-46.
Guilford would whittle the lead down to six with 18 seconds left to play, but free-throw shooting by Roanoke (13-2, 9-2) sealed the game.
The Quakers (7-10, 6-6) were led by Tracey Croner, who finished with a team-high 14 points and seven rebounds.
Roanoke's Erin Jenkins had 12 points, six rebounds and tied a career high with six assists. Jaleesa Osborne notched 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Ferrum 85, Shenandoah 76
WINCHESTER, Va. -- Ferrum College erased a nine-point first-half deficit to earn a USA South Athletic Conference victory over Shenandoah.
The Panthers (10-4, 6-1) were led by Brittany Bullock, who scored 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Tonya Wright added 19 points and 14 boards.
The Hornets (9-6, 5-3) were led by Mandy Johnston and Alexis Hargbol, who scored 14 points apiece.
