Gonzaga tops No. 16 Cavaliers
MILWAUKEE -- Heather Bowman scored 18 points to lead Gonzaga to a 69-62 upset victory over No. 16 Virginia on Sunday in the WBCA Classic hosted by Marquette.
"I thought we were a little flat," Virginia coach Debbie Ryan said after the loss.
Kelly Bowen and Janelle Bekkering added 15 points each for the Bulldogs (7-1), who won two out of three games in the tournament.
Monica Wright led the Cavaliers (5-2) with a game-high 26 points, and Aisha Mohammed added 16. Virginia was also 2-1 in the tournament.
Virginia led several times in the second half, and a basket by Wright put the Cavaliers ahead 46-44. But Bowman scored shortly after to give the Bulldogs the lead for good at 48-46.
Gonzaga led 36-31 at halftime.
Peace 95, Hollins 56
Five players scored in double figures as Peace (2-1) routed host Hollins (0-4).
Emily Long led Hollins with 22 points and six rebounds, and Tamara Phillips added 19.
No. 1 Connecticut 106, No. 4 Oklahoma 78
STORRS, Conn. -- Renee Montgomery had a career-high 30 points and matched the Connecticut record with 13 assists to help the Huskies rout Oklahoma.
Montgomery, who got the first double-double of her career, tied the assists record set by Laura Lishness in 1991 against Seton Hall.
Maya Moore added 27 points and 12 rebounds and Tina Charles had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for UConn. Freshman Caroline Doty scored a career-high 18 points, going 6-for-6 from behind the 3-point line.
