James Madison edges Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Rodney Landers found Bosco Williams (Alleghany) for the game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass with no time left as top-ranked James Madison rallied past Villanova 23-19 on Saturday.

A poor punt gave James Madison (7-1, 5-0 Colonial), which is No. 1 in both Division I-AA polls, the ball at its own 34-yard line with 1:01 left.

Battling rainy, gusty weather, Landers accounted for all 66 yards on the drive, completing three passes and rushing for 11 yards before he found Williams for the game-winning score.

LEXINGTON -- Washington and Lee senior running back Stuart Sitterson tallied 323 all-purpose yards and one touchdown, but it was not enough as the Generals dropped their third-straight game.

Sitterson, who was limited in practice during the week with a rib injury, rushed 13 times for 91 yards and one touchdown, caught five passes for 53 yards and totaled 179 yards on kickoff returns. He eclipsed Chris Leiser (1981) to become W&L's all-time leader for career kickoff return yards (1,866).

Charlie Westfal completed 14 of 20 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns for the Generals (4-4, 1-3 ODAC).

Josh Vogelbach paced Guilford (4-3, 1-2), completing 29 of 51 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.

Catholic 33, H-SC 21

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY -- Catholic University (6-1, 2-1 ODAC) stopped the Hampden-Sydney offense on two fourth-down attempts and forced a fourth H-SC turnover in the final 14 minutes to shock the No. 18 Tigers (7-1, 4-1) and take control of the ODAC standings.

Keith Ricca, the younger brother of Hampden-Sydney great J.D. Ricca, finished with 392 yards passing and passed for four touchdowns for the Cardinals. Ryan McManus caught seven passes for 186 yards and three scores.

Josh Simpson rushed for 146 yards and three TDs on 25 carries and caught five passes for 82 yards for the Tigers. Corey Sedlar threw for 322 yards on 21-of-46 passing, but had four interceptions.

E&H 19, Bridgewater 14

BRIDGEWATER -- Caleb Jennings rushed for 156 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Emory & Henry (4-3, 2-1 ODAC) over Bridgewater (2-5, 1-2).

Jennings finished with 282 all-purpose yards.

BC's lone TD came on David Argaud's 85-yard kick return.

LYNCHBURG -- Rashad Jennings rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns to lead Liberty to a victory over Charleston Southern.

Jennings and Jonathan Crawford each scored two first-half touchdowns as the Flames (7-1, 3-0 Big South) jumped a 35-point halftime lead over the Buccaneers (3-5, 1-2).

Richmond 48, Georgetown 0

RICHMOND -- Josh Vaughan ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns to help Richmond (6-3) rout Georgetown (1-6).

South Carolina St. 35, Hampton 13

ORANGBURG, S.C. -- Travil Jamison ran for four touchdowns and William Ford had 182 yards rushing and a score, to lead South Carolina State (6-2, 4-0 MEAC).

LaMarcus Coker finished with 109 rushing yards for Hampton (5-2, 4-1).

Herbert Bynes, who completed 27 of 40 passes, threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns.

W&M 34, Rhode Island 24

WILLIAMSBURG -- Jonathan Grimes rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown to lead William and Mary (5-2, 3-1 Colonial) to victory over Rhode Island (2-7, 0-5).

The Tribe trailed 10-7 at halftime before scoring 24 second-half points.

Jacob Phillips (Bath County) was 15-of-24 for 207 yards and one touchdown for the Tribe.

R-MC 21, Frostburg St. 12

ASHLAND -- Zak Thornton rushed for 256 yards on 45 carries as Randolph-Macon (3-4) upended Frostburg State.

Averett 28, Greensboro 14

DANVILLE -- Jeremy Clifton returned an interception 46 yards for a TD and Jeremy Dixon brought back a punt 50 yards for a score as Averett (2-4, 2-2 USA South) defeated Greensboro (2-5, 0-4).

Fla. A&M 31, Norfolk St. 28

NORFOLK -- Trevor Scott kicked a 26-yard field goal with 31 seconds left to lift Florida A&M (6-2, 2-2 MEAC) over Norfolk State (2-6, 1-4).

Dennis Brown rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for the Spartans.

Virginia St. 54, Lincoln, Pa. 0

PETERSBURG -- Taron Hampton ran for 118 yards on 15 carries and Babasi Onadpipe gained 154 yards on 28 totes as Virginia State (5-4) won its third game in a row by routing Lincoln University (1-8).

Bowie St. 14, Va. Union 13

BOWIE, Md. -- Andre Johnson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dean Boateng and Michael Gagne added the extra point with 51.7 seconds left to lift Bowie State (4-4, 3-0 CIAA) to victory.

Patrick Mills gained 135 yards rushing and had a TD on 16 carries for Virginia Union (5-4, 3-3).

Elizabeth City State 39, St. Paul's 9

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- The Elizabeth City State (6-3, 6-0 CIAA) defense held St. Paul's (4-5, 2-4) to 76 total yards and four first downs in the victory.

UVa-Wise 14, Pikeville 6

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- The defensive unit forced five turnovers and did not allow a touchdown as 11th-ranked UVa-Wise defeated Pikeville College.
