In the region: UVa netters advance
TULSA, Okla. -- Top-seeded Virginia advanced to the NCAA men's tennis semifinals for the second consecutive year with a 4-2 win over No. 9 Baylor.
The Cavaliers will meet No. 4 Georgia today for a berth in Tuesday's championship match.
The Cavaliers (32-0) took the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Houston Barrick and Sanam Singh improved to 4-0 at No. 3 doubles in the tournament with an 8-3 win over Dominik Mueller and Jordan Rux.
BASEBALL
VMI 9, Charleston So. 7
LEXINGTON -- Jordan Ballard's two-run double in the eighth inning gave VMI its eighth last at-bat win this season as the Keydets came from behind for a win over Charleston Southern.
The regular-season finale for both VMI (29-24, 14-7 Big South) and CSU (18-34, 6-15) included five home runs, four lead changes, nine pitchers and a rain delay.
SOFTBALL
Ithaca 8, Cortland State 1
Carly Myers gave up two hits and struck out seven to earn her 20th win of the season, and Ithaca (31-11) picked up its second win in the NCAA Division III softball tournament at the Moyer Sports Complex, defeating Cortland State (39-13).
UW-Whitewater 5, Muskingum 3
Jessica Stang relieved Warhawks starter Nikole Schulty in the second inning and gave up two hits in six innings to earn the win as UW-Whitewater (37-10) eliminated Muskingum (41-12) from the tournament.
UW-Eau Claire 2, Louisiana 1
Jenny Ross improved to 26-2 on the season, allowing five hits as the Blugolds (35-11) defeated Louisiana (44-6) in the semis.
UW-Whitewater 4, Ithaca 0
Stang struck out eight and gave up four hits to lead the Warhawks to their third straight tournament win and move UW-Whitewater (37-10) to within one game of the championship game.

UVa men win 100 relay; Smith wins for women
PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Virginia men's and women's track teams both finished second at the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
The men's 100-meter relay team of Conlon Bonner, Reuben Jones, Meikle Paschal and Adams Abdulrazaaq defended its 2007 title, winning the event in 41.03 seconds and solidifying the men's team in second place with 55 points, seven behind Liberty.
For the women, Ayla Smith turned in a time of 1:00.08 to win the ECAC 400 hurdles, leading the team to second place behind Connecticut. n The VMI 800 relay team of Corey Houck, Donnie Cowart, Anthony Harris and Felix Kitur won the event in a school-record 7:32.20.
AUTO RACING
David Johnson wins Super Cup Stock Series
CALLAWAY -- Daniel Johnson made his first trip ever to ASA Franklin County Speedway a memorable one as he won the 100-lap Super Cup Stock Car Series portion of the Auto Salvage and Sales 250 Saturday.
Other event winners were: Steven Weeks (street stock); Timmy Hogan (Mod4 division); Scott Foley (UCAR); and Jason Moye (mini-cup).

UVa wins South/Central title, Varsity Eight
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- Virginia rowing finished with 407 points -- including a victory in the Varsity Eight -- to capture the overall South/Central Regional Championship and the South Region Championship at Melton Lake.

Keydet freshman Sam Roberts (1-0) recorded his first career win, retiring the only two batters he faced to wrap up the eighth before VMI's comeback.
CSU closer Payton Tweddale (2-4) took the loss.
Tanner Biagini (3-for-4) and Mike Roberts (2-for-4) each had home runs and two RBIs in the contest, while both A.J. Yoder and Shane Geisslinger contributed a pair of hits.
