UNC eliminates Cavaliers
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- North Carolina avenged a lopsided loss at Virginia during the regular season and handed the Cavaliers a first-round loss in the NCAA women's lacrosse tournament, 11-7.
Freshman Corey Donohue had a game-high five goals for 12th-ranked UNC, which\ trailed 3-0 after the first 5:06.
The Tar Heels (13-6) outscored third-ranked Virginia 6-0 over the remainder of the first half and the Cavaliers (14-4) could get no closer than 6-5 early in the second half.
Nobody had more than two goals for Virginia, a 16-5 winner over the visiting UNC on March 16.
UVa, recent winner of the ACC championship, reached the NCAA championship game in 2007.

CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Virginia's first home rain-shortened game of the baseball season came at an opportune time in the finale of a three-game series with North Carolina (42-9 , 20-6 ACC).
The Cavaliers (34-17, 14-13), who had been 0-9 against Top 25 opposition, beat the Tar Heels on a two-run bases-loaded single by Jeremy Farrell with two out in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Minutes later, the umpires sent the teams to their dugouts and evacuated the stadium because of lightning. The field was under water when the umpires decided to end the game after a one-hour, 10-minute delay.
UNC (42-9 , 20-6 ACC) was looking at a possible move into the No. 1 spot in the poll following Virginia Tech's victory over top-ranked Miami on Saturday.

LEXINGTON -- Sam Roberts' base knock through the right-side of the infield plated Justin Hess with what proved to be the winning run, as VMI (26-22) battled back for a rain-shortened win over Maryland-Eastern Shore (6-48).
MEN'S TENNIS
Tennessee 4, Va. Tech 0
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Virginia Tech lost to No. 8 Tennessee in a NCAA second-round match. The Matches were moved indoors because of high winds.
Tennessee (23-3) advances to the NCAA Sweet 16 in Tulsa, Okla., while Tech ends the season at 16-9.
Tech's Albert Larregola will play in the NCAA singles championship in Tulsa May 21-26.
Virginia 4, Penn St. 0
CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Top-seeded Virginia (30-0) advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA tournament for the fifth consecutive year, defeating Penn State (16-12) in the second-round match.
The Cavaliers will meet the winner of No. 16 Michigan on Friday in the round of 16.
TRACK
Yerkes wins 200
NEWPORT NEWS -- Roanoke College's Robin Yerkes won one event and finished second in another Saturday during the New Captain's Classic at Christopher Newport University.
Yerkes won the 200-meter dash in a NCAA Division III-provisional time of 24.82 seconds. She was second in the 400. The Roanoke women also won the 400 relay.
The Maroons' Andy Nagel won the men's 400 hurdles in 55.46 seconds.
