Dresser to be named Tech's new wrestling coach

By Jim Reedy

Virginia Tech will introduce former Christiansburg High School coach Kevin Dresser as its new wrestling coach this afternoon, ending a tumultuous nine-day period in which the Hokies briefly considered eliminating the program altogether after second-year coach Tom Brands left for Iowa.

Dresser won 13 VHSL Group AA championships in 18 seasons at Christiansburg and Grundy high schools.

“Any time you leave those relationships, that makes it tough,” Dresser said today. “But from a challenging perspective, it was an easy decision. I feel like I’ve … taken Christiansburg to a level that I’m satisfied with right now.”

Blue Demons assistant coach Daryl Weber will be promoted to the head job, Dresser said.

“Christiansburg’s not in good hands. They’re in great hands,” Dresser said.
