Tim Sykes of Blacksburg crossed the finish line first to win the inagrual Blue Ridge Marathon this morning.

Sykes won with an unofficial time of 2 hours, 43 minutes.

Karen Ostergaard of Asheville, N.C., won the women's division with an unofficial time of 3:30.

There were 324 runners that finished the marathon. The half-marathon had 450 finishers.

Although temperatures were a little warmer than what would be considered optimal for a marathon, this morning's cloud cover helped keep conditions comfortable. There was only one report of a runner needing medical attention during the day. That was for dehydration.

Several of the top finishers said they were impressed with the course, which included climbs up Roanoke Mountain and onto the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And while there were some challenging climbs, several runners commented that running downhill was actually more of a challenge physically.

Crowds along the route were steady, and runners felt like they had a good amount of company to get them around throughout the day.
