UVa-Maryland postponed
The University of Maryland has announced that the Virginia men's basketball game scheduled for Wednesday night at Maryland has been postponed until Monday, Feb. 15.
The time and TV for Monday's game has not yet been announced.
The postponement is because another major snowstorm is expected to hit the Washington, D.C., area today and Wednesday, on top of last weekend's winter storm that hit the D.C. area quite hard. University of Maryland officials, including the chief of police and the vice president for facilties management, consulted on the decision to postpone the game.
Maryland did play its home game Saturday with North Carolina, although the campus has been shut down since last Friday. But the D.C. area is expecting another foot of snow today and Wednesday, on top of the huge amount it got last weekend.
"Large portions of game day parking lots and sidewalks ... remain impassible," the University of Maryland said in a news release. "Director of athletics Deborah Yow and head men's basketball coach Gary Williams have expressed their appreciation for all the work done by campus employees and the atheltics staff that allowed the UNC game to be played under challenging circumstances. Those circumstances now move from being challenging to impossible for campus staff to manage, with the second major snowstorm approaching in less than a week."
