Virginia Tech defeats Miami 31-7

The eleventh-ranked Hokies, a two-point underdog, trounced the ninth-ranked Miami at Lane Stadium in steady rainfall throughout the game.

Jacory Harris' plan to play it cool lasted about five minutes against No. 11 Virginia Tech, and No. 9 Miami's stay in the top 10 won't last long, either.

The Hokies (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) harassed the heralded quarterback into his first big mistake after just five snaps and dominated all day, beating the Hurricanes 31-7 on Saturday.

Miami had a chance to take a commanding lead in the ACC's Coastal Division. Instead, Virginia Tech cooled of the Hurricanes.

Miami (2-1, 2-1), which had given Harris all kinds of time in beating No. 18 Florida State and Georgia Tech, had a lot more trouble keeping the Hokies' pass rush off their star.

Harris finished 9-for-25 for 150 yards and was sacked three times.
