Pulaski County boys basketball assistant promoted to head coach
Geoff McCulloch worked under Mark Hanks for the past five seasons.
Pulaski County High boys basketball stayed in the family for its new coach.
Geoff McCulloch, Mark Hanks’ assistant coach for the past five years, will succeed the retired Hanks pending approval by the county school board Wednesday.
McCulloch, 37, was head junior varsity coach for four years while also serving on Hanks’ staff. McCulloch was with the varsity exclusively this past season.
A native of Boston, McCulloch played at Greensboro College after spending one season as a walk-on at UNC Asheville. He started his career as a banker before moving into coaching at Pulaski County.
Hanks resigned as coach following the 2008-09 season and is now the high school’s athletic director.
