Former Hokie Cheeseman charged with three misdemeanor counts
BLACKSBURG -- Former Virginia Tech football player
Jahre Cheeseman was charged Wednesday with misdemeanor assault, misdemeanor
obstruction of justice and misdemeanor petit larceny under $200 following an
incident that occurred on campus, according to Montgomery County General District Court documents.
Cheeseman, a 22-year-old Vallejo, Calif., native, quit the football team before Tech's appearance in January's Orange Bowl. He indicated at the time that he planned to transfer to another school and continue his career.
The 5-foot-10, 196-pound tailback carried 21 times for 133 yards and one touchdown in 2007. Buried in the Hokies' crowded backfield rotation, Cheeseman, who was a redshirt junior last season, got only four carries for 21 yards last season before announcing his intention to leave the program.
Cheeseman's case has been continued until Aug. 27, when he's scheduled to appear in Montgomery County General District Court.
