Virginia names starting kicker
Virginia football
coach Al Groh said that former UVa soccer star Yannick Reyering will be the
Cavaliers' No. 1 place-kicker to enter the season.
Reyering, a
24-year-old senior, completed his soccer eligibility last season. He was limited
to three years of soccer eligibility by the NCAA as the result of his
involvement with a semi-pro German soccer team before his arrival at
UVa.
Reyering, twice
named first-team All-ACC in soccer, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament
late in the 2007 soccer season and required reconstructive surgery. That
prevented him from playing for FC Dallas, which selected him in the second round
of the Major League Soccer draft.
Redshirt sophomore
Chris Hinkebein and freshman walk-on Robert Randolph have provided Reyering's
competition in the preseason.
