UVa freshman out for the year
Sammy Zeglinski, a freshman guard on the Virginia men's basketball team, has been declared out for the season.
UVa spokesman Rich Murray said the Cavaliers will seek an extra season of eligibility for Zeglinski, who has had one ankle operation and is slated for another.
Zeglinski has played in 62 minutes over eight games and is averaging 0.9 points, with 15 assists and nine turnovers.
The NCAA is permitted to accept an hardship appeal for athletes who suffer an incapacitating injury in the first half of the season and play in fewer than 30 percent of their teams' games.
Virginia has a 29-game regular-season schedule and will play at least one game in the ACC Tournament, meaning that Zeglinski will fall under the 30-percent threshold.
