WILMINGTON, Del. -- Salem scored four runs in the top of the 14th inning to defeat Wilmington 7-3 on Wednesday night and clinched a spot in the Carolina League playoffs.

The Avalanche (35-30) will play Kinston, the first-half champion in the Southern Division, in a best-of-three series starting Wednesday. Salem is two games behind Kinston in the second-half race with five games left.

In the 14th, Wladimir Sutil had an RBI single and Billy Hart added an RBI double. Sutil and Hart later scored on a two-out throwing error by Wilmington (42-22).
