Fuentes home run in 9th caps Pulaski rally

The Mariners get their first home victory with three runs in the last two innings to top the Cards.

PULASKI -- The Pulaski Mariners finally gave their Calfee Park fans a victory to celebrate on Wednesday night -- and in exciting fashion as well.

Cesar Fuentes led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run, as the Mariners scored three times in the last two innings to beat the Johnson City Cardinals 4-3 in an Appalachian League baseball game.

It was the first win in six home games for Pulaski (2-7), which never led in the game until Fuentes connected for his second homer.

Pulaski out-hit Johnson City (6-3) 13-4, but had little to show for it until a four-hit eighth -- including a double by Gabriel Noriega -- led to two runs.

Johnson City 111 000 000 -- 3 4 1

Pulaski 010 000 021 -- 4 13 4

None out when winning run scored

Ferrara, Thompson (5), Novak (8), Heim (8) and Tartamella; Chang, Vasquez (6) and Familia. W -- Vasquez (1-0). L -- Heim (0-1). HR -- P: Fuentes (2).
