Navarro home run gets Salem by Hillcats
The Red Sox stay hot in the second half of the season by winning for the sixth time in the last seven.
LYNCHBURG -- Yamaico Navarro's homer to lead off the top of the eighth inning gave the Salem Red Sox the lead for good on the way to a 5-4 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats in a Carolina League baseball game on Wednesday.
The Red Sox continued their hot streak to kick off the second half of the season. They are now 6-1 and have the early lead in the Southern Division.
Seth Garrison, who allowed nine hits and four runs in seven innings of work, got the win for Salem.
Kyle Fernandes and Derrick Loop finished things off for Garrison with a pair of scoreless innings.
Salem got off to a fast start again, scoring an unearned run in the first inning. It was the eighth game in a row the Red Sox had scored the first run of the game.
Chih Hsien Chiang had an RBI single in the fourth, and Salem also benefitted from a bases-loaded error by Lynchburg, which scored two.
