Pulaski Mariners fall to rally against Johnson City

PULASKI -- The Pulaski bullpen squandered a two-run lead as the Mariners lost 9-8 to the Johnson City Cardinals in an Appalachian League game on Monday night.

Trailing 7-5, the Cardinals' Hector Alvarez was greeted with a walk from Pulaski reliever Eric Thomas (0-1) to lead off the seventh inning. Luis Mateo followed with a double to center field and Alvarez subsequently scored on a sacrifice fly.

Mateo then scored the tying run when Rainel Rosario reached on a fielder's choice without an out being recorded. Rosario scored a batter later on first baseman Tim Morris' throwing error after Matthew Adams had grounded out third to first.

Pulaski's Dwight Britton went 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Pulaski (1-6). Jarrett Burgess, selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft, was 3-for-4 and scored a run.

Mateo was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run for Johnson City (5-2). He also scored two runs.
