Pulaski Mariners capture first victory
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- The Pulaski Mariners earned their first win of the season after pounding out 13 hits and defeating previously unbeaten Elizabethton 9-6 in an Appalachian League game Sunday.
The Twins got the scoring started with a two-run second inning but the Mariners (1-5) scored in five straight innings to earn their first notch in the win column.
Cesar Fuentes led the way with three RBIs on two hits for Pulaski.
Vinnie Catricala notched three hits while Dwight Britton, Gabriel Noriega and Tim Morris each had two.
Pulaski had pulled ahead 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning but Elizabethton (5-1) scored four runs in the bottom on Daniel Rams' grand slam.
The Mariners tied it back up with a run in the sixth and seventh to make the score 6-6.
Noriega, Fuentes and Catricala each drove in a run in the eighth for a three-run cushion and eventual win.
Eric Valdez came in in the fourth inning for Pulaski and earned the win, allowing one earned run over 3 23 innings.
Anthony Vasquez earned the save and the two relievers combined to hold the Twins scoreless over the last four innings.
Tony Davis suffered the loss for the Twins.
