Pulaski's Mariners stopped again
Elizabethton gets 15 hits and also gets help from five Pulaski errors on the way to an easy victory.
ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -- The Elizabethton Twins scored nine times over the third and fourth innings, then scored at least another run in each of their final four at-bats, which led to a 14-4 win over the Pulaski Mariners in Appalachian League action on Friday.
Tyler Ladendorf hit a three-run homer to highlight a four-run third inning for the Elizabethton (4-0). In the fourth, Pulaski starter Yao Wen Chang surrendered doubles to three off the four batters he faced before being pulled from the game. The Twins ended up scoring five times in the inning.
Dwight Britton had two doubles to lead the Mariners (0-4), who have played their first four games against the only two teams in the league. Opponents have been tough on Pulaski's pitching so far. In all four games, the Mariners have surrendered at least 10 hits, and both Danville on Thursday and Elizabethton on Friday finished with 15.
Note
The Seattle Mariners have assigned pitcher Brian Moran -- who concluded his college career at North Carolina in last week's College World Series -- to Pulaski. Moran, who had a year of eligibility left at UNC, was 7-1 and had a 2.31 ERA, doing most of his work in relief. In ACC play, Moran had an 1.95 ERA and opponents hit .175 against him.
