KINSTON, N.C. -- Seth Garrison threw six scoreless innings and the Salem Red Sox (2-0) blanked the host Kinston Indians 7-0 in Carolina League action Friday night.

Garrison scattered three hits and walked one in six innings, striking out two.

Salem scored two runs in the first, both with two outs. After three consecutive two-out walks issued by Kinston starter Bryce Stowell, Tim Federowicz plated a two-run double. Federowicz, in his first game with Salem, finished 3-5 with a run scored a two RBIs.

In the second inning, Mike Jones plated a two-run single to increase Salem's lead to 4-0.

Salem added single runs in the fourth, eighth, and ninth innings, the latter coming on Jason Place's first home run since April 21, his third of the season.

The Indians never put multiple runners on base until the eighth inning.

Casey Kelly has been selected to represent the U.S. in the Futures Game during Major League Baseball's All-Star festivities.

The game pits prospects from the U.S. against those from the rest of the World on July 12 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Kelly, a first-round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox last June, has gone 1-2 with a 2.52 ERA with Salem. He is, though, planning to switch from pitching to playing shortstop soon.
