Braves hammer Mariners
Danville comes up with three home runs and breaks things open with a five-run fifth inning.
PULASKI -- Robert Heffinger's three-run home run capped a five-run fifth inning for the Danville Braves, who went on to beat the Pulaski Mariners 12-3 in an Appalachian League game Thursday night at Calfee Park.
The loss sends the Mariners off on their first road trip of the season still looking for their first victory.
Pulaski starting pitcher Jean Tome went into the fifth inning with the score tied at 2 but was replaced after just three batters.
Reliever Eric Valdez was unable to get the Mariners (0-3) out of the inning and ended up surrendering four runs during his two innings of work.
In all, the Braves (3-0) banged out 15 hits and scored at least one run in each of the last five innings.
Jhamidy DeJesus and Tommy Johnson both had RBI doubles for the Blue Jays, who managed just six hits and also committed three errors.
Julio Morban also had a pinch-hit double for Pulaski, which scored twice in the third inning to make it 2-2.
Next up for Pulaski is a three-game road series with the Elizabethton Twins.
The Mariners will return home on June 29 to begin a three game set with Johnson City.
