LYNCHBURG -- Miles Durham's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Lynchburg Hillcats to a 2-1 victory over the Salem Avalanche on Friday night for a three-game series sweep.

Avalanche starter Casey Hudspeth had given up just one run in seven innings.

Jose De Los Santos led off the game with a single, stole second, and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Jim Negrych.

Salem didn't score at all on Hillcats starter Anthony Watson, but evened the score when reliever Erik Krebs came on in the seventh.

Jhon Florentino led off with a double, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Carkeek.

With Hudspeth out of the game, the Hillcats broke the tie against reliever Raymar Diaz.

Negrych led off the Lynchburg eighth with a double, then Diaz walked Jamie Romak.

Kent Sakamoto bunted to try to move the runners up, but Diaz fielded it and threw Negrych out at third.

Diaz, though, followed with a wild pitch to move the runners up anyway. That's when Durham singled to bring Romak home.

Salem had a shot to tie the score in the ninth when Nick Moresi led off with a double, but he was thrown out trying to go to third on a grounder by Carkeek and the next two batters could not advance the runner.
